The house, which is a main feature of the york ghost walk, is built on top of an ancient Roman road, which still lies 15 inches below the floor of the cellar.
There have been several sightings of a roman army walking this road, appearing to be on their knees because of the level of the old road they used to travel.
Witnesses say a horn has sounded before men on horses and on foot come trudging through the cellar looking dishevelled. They were dressed in rough green tunics and plumed helmets, carrying short swords and spears.
