How to Earn $1,000 A Month As An Affiliate Marketer

For most affiliate marketers, the $1,000 a month plateau is an excellent short-term goal. Once you're earning $1,000 a month, $5,000 or $10,000 a month doesn't seem that unattainable. With that in mind, here is a simple formula for hitting the $1,000 a month mark.

When I first started out as an affiliate marketer, I did everything backwards. Instead of building a list of subscribers, and then marketing to them, my strategy was to send prospects directly to merchant sites, hoping they would buy the products being promoted.

You can trim several years off your learning curve by building your subscriber list immediately, and then marketing products to them right away through a pre-written autoresponder series.

Obviously it's slightly more complex than that, but by adopting this strategy, you'll be able to enjoy the best of both worlds!

Some ways to build your mailing list include article marketing, exit exchanges, ezine ads, List Builder Pro (pay service), pay-per-click ads, traffic exchanges, and viral list building programs.

Decide which of these options works best for you, (while keeping your eyes open for other methods) take action and get started building your list!

Also, here's a little trick for getting your visitor to a merchant site, AND capturing their e-mail addresses simultaneously: pop-under pages! After a website visitor has subscribed to your mailing list and leaves your site, you can display a pop-under and potentially make a sale at the same time!

Now let's calculate how many subscribers

you'll need to earn $1,000 a month. Although your commissions per sale could be much higher, let's be conservative and say you'll be earning $20 per sale of each product you're promoting.

Based upon this figure, you will have to make 50 sales a month. That's less than two a day, and hardly beyond your reach. If the merchant site converts one percent of its visitors into paying customers(a one percent conversion rate is decent), you will need to send 5,000 people to the merchant site every single month.

To lower the number of people you'll need to send to a merchant site, consider A) promoting a product that pays out higher commissions, and B) promoting a product with a higher conversion rate.

If you promote a product that converts two percent of your visitors into paying customers, and pays out $40 per sale, you will only need to make 25 sales a month, and send 1,250 people to that merchant site, to hit the $1,000 mark.

Set a goal of how many new opt-in subscribers you want every week. Also, if you can, promote two-tier affiliate programs to increase your commissions even more.

One final note in closing: Send out three or more mailings every time you promote a particular product to your list. Research shows that the highest response often comes from the second and third mailings. Study how veteran marketers market to you in order to get a sense of how to put together a profitable mailing.
